Thinking back - Grace, N.D & Sheesha power 2004

I kept thinking back about my past a lot. Especially on my two friends in Singapore, Grace and N.D. Maybe because I am graduating soon, or the fact that I seldom see them because I don’t go back to Singapore. I just feel the urge to link back to them. I keep thinking of ways how we can connect, and selfishly I wonder how I can make them come to Shanghai for good. To go through a sequence of experience in which it benefits us all. But such things are hard to plan and easy to forgo, especially when we all have our responsibilities in life, and we cannot just say goodbye to things we have in hand, and “chiong”(go forward) ahead like nothing matters.

Below are some pictures we have taken years back then. I remember I just got my first SLR, a Nikon F55, and I keep insisting taking pictures, despite the fact they’re always sianz ji buahz(bored and unwilling) and have the light bulb coming into their brain that Akuma 又来了(not again!). But I guess it’s worth it, at least we got pictures to think back about what we had done, despite the fact we had so little time for each other.

These pictures were taken in Arab Street, Singapore. If I remember correctly, the place we visited is Cafe Samar. I don’t know whether it is still operating as a business. But I do know many Arabs go there to chill when they are in Singapore.

There was a period in which there was a sudden booming of Sheesha houses and clubs in our island. Our government actually thought it became a social issue because many young people began to visit this Sheesha houses to relax and have gatherings. Because Sheesha smoking is still considered as smoking, though the existence of Tobacco content is around 0.1mg, it is stated that people cannot smoke Sheesha if they are under 18 years old of age. There were news about it. And I’m glad over the years, Singaporeans just took it as a trend and a did not actually over induldge in it. But I tell you, it’s really relaxing and can be addictive. Because you do nothing but just puff puff puff.

Sheesha Ma? What is Sheesha? It looks like you’re smoking with a traditional arabic Hooka. Is it Hashish or marijuana? maybe some strange tobacco derivitive?
I read about Hau scuba diving. Where do you scuba dive in China? Do they need cert cards? Do they provide tanks? I would love to Scuba in China!

Well, I guess your Hooka is what we call in Singapore Sheesha, or Shisha. It consist of very little nicotine content, and usually its fruit flavoured. We don’t smoke Marijuana in Singapore. Hau did not go China to scubadive. But if you wish to scubadive, you can try going to Hainan Island in China for it. They have tanks there, but I am no sure whether you need a certification there. But if you want a cheaper vacation, I recommend you to go Perhetian Islands in Malaysia. Cheers.
