For one more day

“If you had the chance, just one chance, to go back and fix what you did wrong in life, would you take it? And if you did, would you be strong enough to stand it?…”

This was the back page of the book “for one more day” by Mitch Albom, author of Tuesday with Morrie. 5 years ago, before I came to Shanghai, I just ran through a period of life in which I felt rather despondent. Ah Yat gave me a book by Mitch Albom called “Tuesday with Morrie”

If I ever have the chance to go back and change anything, one chance is never enough. But if there’s something in my mind now, I would really wish I can go back time and amend the time spend here in Shanghai. I will not let my life run so dry, I will not smoke and drink so much. And I will go to classes more often. I will not hurt my friends who are important. I will live every day than just a day itself. And I will try to be contented and find peace if I can.

But things are not this way. We cannot amend mistakes we made. Sometimes we have to live with it as a reminder of what’s really going on in reality. Don’t be mistaken, I am living a blessed life. I am very fortunate. The only thing how can we actually make our lives better without hurting people?

Recently, I heard a rather outrageous rumor of someone connected to me. I was rather affected. But reflecting upon it, I believe very much so that she is really a friend and will not hurt me. There could have been some misunderstandings and complications along the way, unsaid words or conversations that should have been made. But I do not believe anything said about her to be false. She is a friend. She will not hurt me.

But the world is nasty enough. We do not expect what we don’t want from happening. Even so, thinking on the bright side is better thinking from a dark side. Maybe because I am getting old, of maybe being with a group of Malaysian friends had slowly changed my mindset about what matters in life. And because of that, and for one more day, I will really like to make all the amends, to change events that hurt people. I am blessed I do not suffer so much here in Shanghai. And being so, I really hope people I hold dear are not hurt as well. And I am really sorry if I ever did.
